Durham Public Schools win nine National Healthy Schools Awards
Durham Public Schools received nine of the 16 National Healthy Schools Awards earned by North Carolina schools. The awards come from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation founded by the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation as a response to the growing rate of childhood obesity.

Durham, Chapel Hill metro recognized as No. 1 most vegetarian city
The Durham , Chapel Hill metro area was recognized as the No. 1 most vegetarian city in the nation according to the Huffington Post. The rankings are based on data on 100 markets over the past year, provided by online ordering site GrubHub, which notes Durham and Chapel Hill residents were 305 percent more likely to order off the vegetarian menu than the national average.

The report, "2015 Best and Worst Foodie Cities for Your Wallet," ranks the 150 largest U.S. cities according to dining affordability, the number of restaurants per capita, diversity of culinary offerings, cost of groceries, average beer and wine prices, number of farmers markets and other factors relating to food and drink.
