Three Durham James Beard Award Semifinalists 2015 Announced

The James Beard Awards have announced three Durham semifinalists for two 2015 awards. Phoebe Lawless of Scratch Bakery is a semifinalist for Outstanding Baker; and Scott Howell of Nana’s and Matt Kelly of Vin Rouge and Mateo Tapas are semifinalists in the category of Best Chef Southeast.

Four Durham Chefs and Restaurants Recognized as Semifinalists for James Beard Award


The James Beard Foundation announced that four Durham restaurants are among the 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards Restaurant and Chef Award Semifinalists:
  1. Mateo bar de Tapas in the category of Best New Restaurant
  2. Pheobe Lawless of Scratch Bakery in the category of Outstanding Pastry Chef
  3. Sean Lilly Wilson of Fullsteam Brewery in the category of Outstanding Wine, Spirits, Beer Professional
  4. Scott Howell of Nana's in the category of  Best Chef in the Southeast

Nana's Resturant Makes Open Table's Top 100 of Best American Cuisine

Nana's Resturant was recently listed in Open Table's Top 100 of Best American Cuisine. The list of winners is based on more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 15,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Three Durham food scene standouts have been honored as 2012 James Beard Award semifinalists: Magnolia Grill, Outstanding Restaurant; Fullsteam Brewery owner Sean Lily Wilson, Outstanding Wine & Spirits Professional; Nana's owner Scott Howell, Best Chef/Southeast.

Durham 'Best Restaurants of 2011' Winners

News & Observer food critic Greg Cox named Magnolia Grill the Triangle's Restaurant of the Year. Additionally, Nana's received a Gold Medal. Fairview, Four Square, Revolution and Watts Grocery received Silver Medals. Blu Seafood and Bar, Dos Perros, Los Comales, and Vin Rouge received Best in Class rankings while G2B and Happy China were among the area's Best New Restaurants.
