Grammy winner Jim Mills' holds the world’s largest privately owned collection of Gibson flathead five-string Mastertone banjos made between 1930 and 1942 in a walnut-paneled, 1,000-square-foot Banjo Room located in his Durham home.

Burt's Bees Puts Durham on the ABC News "Made in the USA" Map

ABC's "World News with Diane Sawyer" has compiled an interactive map of products fabricated in all 50 states for their "Made in the USA" series. North Carolina has the fourth highest number of companies making products with Burt's Bees representing Durham.

Duke Finishes Fifth In Directors' Cup Standings

Durham Wins US Mayors Award for Holton Center Renovation

The City of Durham has received an honorable mention from the U.S. Conference of Mayors for the innovative development and launch of the Holton Career and Resource Center, a state-of-the-art vocational school, recreation center, and community clinic that improves the lives of thousands of students and community members who use the services provided there every day. The Honorable Mention City Livability Award, one of the most competitive programs sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, recognizes Durham’s effort to breathe new life into Northeast Central Durham.

Bimbe Cultural Arts Festival Brings National Recognition to Durham

Durham Parks and Recreation has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2011 Dorothy Mullen Arts and Humanities Award for the success of the Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival, a community-wide celebration of African and African American culture, history and traditions. Awarded by the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), the Dorothy Mullen Arts and Humanities program honors the most innovative and effective arts and humanities programs across the nation. The Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival has been a signature event in Durham since 1969.

DPAC Boosts Attendance by 15%

In it's 2010-2011 season, the Durham Performing Arts Center hosted 179 performances and sold out 58. Attendance topped 350,000 guests which amounts to a 15 percent increase over the previous season.

Fullsteam to Represent North Carolina in Northwest Cherries' Tree to Table Challenge

Fullsteam Brewery will represent the state of North Carolina in Washington Fruit Commission's Northwest Cherries "Tree to Table" challenge. In honor of National Ranier Cherry Day on July 11, the cherry organization has selected an iconic restaurant or food producer in each state to incorporate the yellow red-blushed cherries into its menu this month.
