After leading Durham Hillside to a state championship and being named to the All-State Team, Vad Lee can now celebrate another piece of history, being named The Associated Press prep football player of the year for North Carolina in 2010.
Duke University senior Bryan Morgan was one of 22 NCAA football players presented with the Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team trophy for his off-the-field work.
Sue Anne Lewis, a student life instructor at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and the key figure behind its food drive, placed third in the national Subway High School Heroes Contest.

Duke University Health System received nearly $210,000 from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in a project that rewards hospitals for high quality inpatient care.
The Durham Center was awarded full Health Utilization Management Accreditation from URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma were each named the 2010 USA Basketball National Coach of the Year on Monday. Coach K is the first four-time recipient of the award.
Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski reached 879 career wins tying Dean Smith. One more win will give Coach K the second all-time men's victories and making him the winningest coach ever in the ACC.

In the 27th Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime, drug and violence prevention awards competition, the City of Durham maintained its No. 9 ranking among similar-sized cities nationwide. Also, for the third consecutive year, NNO All-Star honors were achieved by Durham’s Azalea Park Apartments community and Audubon Park Homeowners Association.
Sixty-two Durham Public School teachers have been designated National Board Certified Teachers ranking DPS among the top 10 districts in the nation in its number of new nationally certified teachers. The induction brings the total number of nationally certified teachers in Durham to 327.

Durham came in third in this year's contest for the best-tasting tap water in North Carolina according to the North Carolina American Water Works Association and Water Environment Association's annual competition.
Will Snyderwine, a Duke University junior kicker for the football team, was named to the American Football Coaches Association’s All-American team, becoming the first Blue Devil selected since 1989.
