Three Durham Churches Among Fastest Growing in US

World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham has been ranked 16th fastest growing church in the U.S. by Outreach magazine. Newhope  Church was ranked 26th fastest growing, and the Summit Church ranked 96th. The magazine’s annual list of top 100 churches, released Sunday, was determined after 27,000 evangelical Protestant churches were contacted by LifeWay Research to self-report data.

Duke University School of Nursing was named a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the Board of Governors of the National League for Nursing. This makes Duke one of only 25 schools of nursing in the nation to have earned a Center of Excellence recognition.

Duke Medical Center Ranked #1 Hospital in NC by U.S. News & World Report

The U.S. News & World Report has  released its 2013-14 “Best Hospitals” rankings .Duke University Medical Center was ranked as No. 1 hospital in North Carolina and Duke Regional Hospital was ranked as No. 4. For the national rankings, Duke was ranked 18th nationally in cancer; sixth in cardiology and heart surgery; 23rd in diabetes and endocrinology, 43rd in gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery, 14th in geriatrics, 13th in gynecology, 11 in nephrology, 25th in neurology and neurosurgery, eighth in ophthalmology, 12th in orthopedics, fourth in pulmonology, 12th in rheumatology and eighth in urology. Duke Regional was ranked as 34th in diabetes and endocrinology. Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center made the 2013-14 Best Children’s Hospitals list in 10 different specialties.

Hill & Laettner Named NCAA's All-Time March Madness Players

Former Duke standouts Grant Hill and Christian Laettner, both members of Duke’s 1991 and 1992 NCAA Championship teams, were named to the NCAA’s list of All-Time March Madness Players. Additionally, Laettner’s buzzer-beating shot against Kentucky in the 1992 East Regional Final – a shot that was set up by a cross-court pass from Hill – was named the NCAA’s All-Time March Madness Moment.

StartupBus adds Durham Stop

The StartupBus has added Durham’s American Underground as a stop on its route on the way to the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, Texas. The bus packs "entrepreneurs" – all strangers – who are tasked with conceiving of and planning the launch of a startup over the course of a three-day road trip. Upon arrival, these “buspreneurs” are supposed to ready to launch.

Durham Bulls to Host 2014 Triple-A All-star Game


The Durham Bulls will host the 27th annual Triple-A All-Star Game at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in 2014. The game will take place on July 16, 2014 and will be nationally televised on MLB Network. It will serve as the centerpiece of a five-day celebration that will make the Triangle the focal point of the Minor League Baseball world.

DPAC Ranked 5th Among Most Attended Theaters in US

DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center, has been recognized as one of the top attended theaters in the U.S., according to Pollstar magazine’s 2012 report. The report tracks the top 100 theater venues in the U.S. based on worldwide ticket sales – with DPAC ranking fifth, right behind other theater elites such as Radio City Music Hall in New York and the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Durham Receives National Recognition for National Night Out


For the second consecutive year, the City of Durham earned four national rankings in the awards competition sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Durham was ranked 14 among 135 competing cities of comparable populations across the country. Three neighborhoods received All Stars honors, which recognize individuals, organizations or programs for outstanding participation, leadership and/or assistance.

Durham Hospitals Earn Top 5 Ranking in Triangle

Duke Hospital and Durham Regional Hospital earned a #3 and #4 spot on Health Grades Inc.'s annual ranking of Triangle hospitals. Health Grades measures quality of care for 28 common conditions and procedures, 18 of which are based on an assessment of mortality rates and 10 are based on complication rates.
