Durham Arts Council Awarded SmART Grant
Durham Arts Council has been awarded a $30,000 state grant for the SmART Initiative Pilot Program which focuses on creating arts-driven economic development in cities and towns, leveraging arts assets and public/private partnerships.

Durham Artist Wins Bravo's "Work of Art" Reality Competition
Durham artist Kymia Nawabi won Bravo's reality arts competition show, "Work of Art". As a finalist, Nawabi prepared a full solo exhibition and presented the collection to a panel of judges at the Brooklyn Museum who selected her as the "Next Great Artist." The first generation Iranian-American grew up in the Woodcroft area of Durham and attended Jordan High School then later graduated from East Carlina University.

City Council Approves Public Art Program for Durham
The Durham City Council passed a resolution to devote up to one percent of funds from the proposed General Capital Improvement Project annual budget to the installation of public art around the city and downtown. The percent-for-public art program was a high priority section of Durham's Cultural Master Plan.
