SmartAsset has recognized Durham as No.16 in the top 25 best cities for people of color in the tech industry.

NerdWallet recognized Durham as the No.5 best place for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) graduates 2016. Rankings were based on salaries, concentration of STEM jobs and the unemployment rate, as well as U.S. Census Bureau data on the cost of median monthly rent in each location.
