Durham Record Labels Garner Grammy Nominations

Durham-based record labels Marsalis Music and Merge Records have been nominated for Grammy Awards. Saxophonist Miquel Zenón has been nominated for Best Large Jazz Ensemble album for “Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook” which was released by Branford Marsalis' record label. The Arcade Fire's Merge Records release "The Suburbs - Deluxe Edition (Scenes from the Suburbs)" was nominated for Best Recording Package.

Durham Grammy-Winner Marsalis to Receive State's Highest Civilian Honor

World-renowned saxophonist Branford Marsalis will receive the state's highest civilian honor, the North Carolina Award. The state Department of Cultural Resources selected the Durham-based Grammy winner for his many musical contributions to the community and for his volunteer work, including with the N.C. Symphony.

Durham Jazz Artist Honored with Highest Award

America's first family of jazz -- patriarch Ellis Marsalis Jr. and four of his sons (including Branford, who lives in Durham) -- were presented the NEA Jazz Masters Award at the 2011 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony.
