The James Beard Awards have announced three Durham semifinalists for two 2015 awards. Phoebe Lawless of Scratch Bakery is a semifinalist for Outstanding Baker; and Scott Howell of Nana’s and Matt Kelly of Vin Rouge and Mateo Tapas are semifinalists in the category of Best Chef Southeast.

Durham's Guglhupf was named the #5 bakery among the "Top 10 North Carolina Bakeries," by Scoutology.
For the 11th straight year, Duke University is one of the top producers of U.S. Fulbright Scholars, according to the U.S. Department of State. Seventeen Duke students were awarded Fulbright placements for 2014-15, one more than the 16 Duke students who earned Fulbright awards for 2013-14.
