Durham was recognized as the Nation’s 20th Bee City USA

Durham City Council unanimously passed a resolution to adopt the practices required to become a Bee City USA. Mayor William V. “Bill” Bell has designated the Durham Bee City Committee, a group of residents and business owners committed to protecting pollinators, as the facilitator for Durham’s efforts to meet the requirements of being a Bee City USA. Several key partners in the Durham Bee City Committee include Keep Durham Beautiful, Honeygirl Meadery, the NC Museum of Life and Science, Bee Downtown, Burt’s Bees, Durham County Cooperative Extension, Lee attracting birds and bees, Triangle Land Conservancy, and Durham County Bee Keepers.

Durham County recognized as a top rental market for Millennials

Durham County was recognized as one of the top five rental markets for Millennials in the nation in a recent report from RealtyTrac. The top markets average rents accounted for 27% or less of Millennials wages.

Durham County recognized among 2015 Digital Cities Survey Winners

The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties have recognized Durham County in a ranking of a group of 10 counties listed in the 250,000-499,999 population category in its 2015 Digital Counties Survey. The annual survey recognizes leading examples of counties using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies.

The Durham-Chapel Hill metro area’s population was the 35th fastest growing among metro areas in the nation between April of 2010 and July of last year, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates released Thursday.

Durham County led the Fourth Economy Community Index, a list of the nation’s top 10 large counties best positioned to attract investment and managed economic growth. The index categorized counties based on their Census 2010 population and measures large counties containing between 150,000 and 499,999 people in investment, talent, sustainability, place and diversity, as a foundation for future economic success.

Durham County Register of Deeds Receives National Honor

Durham County Register of Deeds Willie L. Covington has received the Archives Award from the Federation of Genealogical Societies. The Archives Award is presented to an organization or an individual in recognition of exceptional contributions in the area of archival access, preservation, or services. Covington was recognized for his efforts in preserving Durham County vital records that were in a rapid state of deterioration to ensure the original historical documents will be accessible for future generations.

44% of Durham County Residents have Bachelor's Degree

According to new figures compiled from U.S. Census Bureau data, nearly 44 percent of Durham County residents have a bachelor's degree making Durham's rate the third-highest in the state -- after Orange and Wake counties -- and it's significantly higher than the state rate of 25.8 percent and the national percentage of 27.5.
