Durham is among the "Top Ten Cities for Creatives," according to a new report by SmartAssetAt No. 9, Durham is the only East Coast city to score well for both affordability and culture.

Durham Record Labels Garner Grammy Nominations

Durham-based record labels Marsalis Music and Merge Records have been nominated for Grammy Awards. Saxophonist Miquel Zenón has been nominated for Best Large Jazz Ensemble album for “Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook” which was released by Branford Marsalis' record label. The Arcade Fire's Merge Records release "The Suburbs - Deluxe Edition (Scenes from the Suburbs)" was nominated for Best Recording Package.

Durham Makes Paste Magazine's List of Top 5 Most Influential Music Towns

Durham, together with Chapel Hill and Raleigh, made Paste's list of the top five most influential college towns in music. The magazine gave special shout outs to Durham music heavies Merge Records, Megafaun, Schooner, The Carolina Chocolate Drops and of course, Duke University.

Durham Picks up Grammy Awards

The Durham-based Carolina Chocolate Drops won the Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album with "Genuine Negro Jig" and "The Suburbs" by Arcade Fire (on Durham's Merge Records) won the album of the year award.

Local Record Label Scores Grammy Nominations

Merge Records' Arcade Fire was honored with three Grammy nominations for its album "The Suburbs." They were nominated for Album of the Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Alternative Music Album.
