44% of Durham County Residents have Bachelor's Degree

According to new figures compiled from U.S. Census Bureau data, nearly 44 percent of Durham County residents have a bachelor's degree making Durham's rate the third-highest in the state -- after Orange and Wake counties -- and it's significantly higher than the state rate of 25.8 percent and the national percentage of 27.5.

Pete Crowley Wins Chess Championship

Durham Academy kindergartner Pete Crowley took first place in his age group at the 2010 Kindergarten Chess Championship sponsored by the U.S. Chess Federation; defeating the No. 1 seed kindergarten player in the nation for the title and a trophy.

ADF Director Honored for Years of Service and Contributions to Dance

Charles Reinhart, director of the American Dance Festival for 42 years and counting, will be celebrated in a special event in honor of his 80th birthday, which was Dec. 5, and for his contributions to the dance world. He was also honored with the Award of Merit by the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.
